Vincent Martin – President of the directoire Roger Martin
[Vincent Martin, President of the directoire Roger Martin]
This is my great-grandfather, Eugene Martin who set it up in 1895. Then came Roger Martin, from whom we kept the name. Then my dad Pierre, and me, the fourth generation.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
How does a family business like yours position itself compared to the giants of the road?
[Vincent Martin, President of the directoire Roger Martin]
Through our application, our business know-how and expertise.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
Are you on any construction sites at this point in time that we could visit to see your real work?
[Vincent Martin, President of the directoire Roger Martin]
You’ll discover that later with Christophe Ribette who is group Technical Director.

Florian and Christophe are now suit up with safety garment in front of a specific machine
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
So the bitumen here is at almost 160°C?
[Christophe Ribette, Technical Director]
That’s right and it arrives here from the storage tanks and comes into contact with all the aggregates at 160°C which have also been heated to 160°C. The mixture of the two is a coating. The surfacing is manufactured before being transported by trucks on site. The road surface has very specific properties. We use bitumens that are somewhat modified.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
Each surface has a specific polymer and a specific result.
[Christophe Ribette, Technical Director]
Exactly. Polymer bitumens are really used on the road surface, that’s what gets the hard treatment and it is this bitumen that needs to be strengthened.

Both are now on top of structure that sees over the whole site.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
As we’ve seen Christophe, there’s the choice of polymer bitumen, and there are also the environmental considerations which come into play with the choice of aggregates. Is it currently possible to make a 100% recycled asphalt?
[Christophe Ribette, Technical Director]
Currently in France, we can’t do it yet. It is possible to achieve with cold techniques using emulsion 100% recycled asphalt surfacing, for light traffic, on small roads. For standard roads that we all use every day, we can make asphalt mixes with a recycling ratio of up to 50%, 60%, or even 70% maximum with new technologies.

[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]

Thank you very much, Here’s the comments book.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
We’ll meet again soon for new visits but ...
Can I do a little asphalting before I go?
[Christophe Ribette, Technical Director]
Of course, you can press the button.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
Okay. Like that?
We see Florian press on a button, and then from the outside we heard his voice from a loudspeaker.
[Florian Martin, journalist, On The Road Again]
Let's go for a bit of asphalting and polymers of course. See you soon!
